Job Description

We are looking for a well-organized Purchasing Officer to join our Central ArcelorMittal R&D finance team. As a Purchasing Officer, you will carry out all tasks allocated by Head of Capex & Purchasing, which includes conducting research on potential vendors and suppliers, managing local- regional and global contracts, updating records and performing global supplier evaluations and performance improvement actions. You should be able to negotiate the full package of pricing, terms & conditions, transport costs, etc.

To be successful as a Purchasing Officer you have excellent organizational skills. You are a good negotiator with a keen eye for detail. Social skills and effective communication are very important as you are working in a multinational environment.

Purchasing officer responsibilities :

  • Conducting product research and sourcing new suppliers and vendors in Laboratory equipment and materials, taking into account emerging trends and business opportunities
  • Sourcing materials, goods, products, and services and negotiating the best or most cost-effective contracts and deals
  • Deliver savings and R&D KPI targets
  • Managing an asset database and updating and maintaining records of all orders, payments, etc
  • Attending product launches and networking with R&D professionals
  • You will be part of the Global R&D Community of purchasing (COP's) and guide its members
  • Back up of Head of Capex & Purchasing on Capex reporting (PPM tool reporting) in close collaboration with the AM Corporate Capex team
  • Close collaboration with Segment procurement organisations (as for example EPO), Corporate Purchasing and AM Capital goods (purchasing)
  • Participate (or delegate) in transversal working groups focused on back-office process standardization, and establishment of procedures / compliance.
  • Purchasing officer requirements :

  • Bachelor’s or master Degree in Business, Logistics, Marketing or a related field is required or through previous experience in a similar position
  • Proficient in the relevant software programs (SAP, MS Office, Digipace, etc)
  • Good written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent networking and time management skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Experience in accountancy is a plus
  • Good knowledge of the steelmaking process is a plus
  • You are able to report and communicate fluently in English (Dutch, French and/or Spanish is a plus)
  • Motivation :

  • Further deployment of all purchasing activities inside R&D, including supplier evaluation and follow up in line with our quality roadmap S3 process (quality audit)
  • Direct Purchasing contract support to all RC's on Negotiation, contracts, Terms, conditions, liquidated damages, etc in close collaboration with our R&D legal department.
  • Deployment of central database including all local, regional and global contracts accessible to all RC’s
  • Investigate further opportunities for new suppliers and contracts in line with our R&D activities with the main objective to realise cost optimisation. Explore transversal role with all AM Purchasing departments to create transparency in AM R&D and AMP Performance Management & Value Creation.
  • Extend and maintain (global) AM R&D contracts including negotiated discounts for "preferred suppliers".
  • Close collaboration with all Segment procurement organisations (as for example EPO) Corporate purchasing & Capital goods purchasing. Acting as a bridge between procurement and R&D.
  • Back up of Head of Capex & Purchasing on Capex & Purchasing reporting (PPM tool reporting) in close collaboration with the AM Corporate Capex team
  • Guidance and support to the Community of Purchasing (COP's) applying best practices & guidance in procurement training at global R&D.
  • Deployment of track and trace tool of all negotiations (Benchmark tool) and cost savings reporting tool
  • Optimization of validation flow in line with R&D and local procurement teams.
  • Deployment of Service Repair & Calibration Contracts - Terms and coverage (parts and labor coverage, etc.) linked to the local, regional and global Service Plans – customization needed
